1881 - Wilson Grove Baptist Church was founded in a little grove of trees. Mr. Ang Wilson donated the land – hence the name Wilson Grove was given to the church. 1985 - A small frame building was erected across the street from the present buildings. The church met one weekend every month, with preaching on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. 1900 - The first Sunday School was organized. It met in the summer months only. During this period and until 1937, the worship service was held twice a month. 1907-1910 - A second and larger rectangular frame building was built with plain glass windows and slatted-back pews. 1917 – The church’s first musical instrument (an organ) was purchased. 1925 - A large wing was added to the church for extra Sunday School space. 1927 – A weekly prayer service was begun. A short while later, Vacation Bible School was started. 1934-1940 - Five more Sunday School rooms were added to the back of the church. 1944 – The church purchased land across the street from the old building. 1948 - A new sanctuary was constructed on that land. Today, that building currently houses the chapel/gymnasium, the Youth Room, the Clothes Closet, and the church offices. 1959 – A new, larger sanctuary was constructed beside the older one. Today, that building still serves as our sanctuary with the adult Sunday School classes in the basement. 1968 – A new education building was constructed behind the sanctuary. Today, that building houses the Children’s Ministry, the Julius Dye Fellowship Hall and the kitchen. And so, 142 years have passed by at Wilson Grove Baptist Church. We humbly thank God for His watch-care over us, His blessings and His grace. May He bless our continued efforts to reach our community in the years ahead for the cause of Christ!
